Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim Useful Links

Return to Main Page
  • North Kaibab Trail
  • South Kaibab Trail
  • Bright Angel Trail
  • GrandCanyonHiker.com  Good overall information. Also check out the pages on each of the corridor trails (North Kaibab, South Kaibab, and Bright Angel) -- There are nice elevation charts for those trails. They also have a very good section on clothing.
  • Corridor Trails distance and elevation information. You can also view a Trail Overview Map -- I'll probably find a better one, but this will do for now.
  • Canyon Hiking Tips -- These are excellent. Plan on following all of these tips except the obvious one about hiking to the river and back in one day.
  • Read the Summer Hiking Tips, too. We are on the edges of the danger months and we have to be prepared for someone in the party to overheat.
  • NOAA Weather Forecast for the Grand Canyon area. I think our abort conditions will be any forecast in excess of 99 °F near the Colorado River for the day of the hike. If it's forecast for more than 95 °F I will send out notice to everyone. Keep in mind that it may be too hot to hike during the afternoon if it's any warmer than forecast, but we can safely wait out the heat. There's a lot of daylight and a nearly full moon, too.
  • Not a link, but the phone number to the Grand Canyon backcountry office belongs here somewhere: 928-638-7888. They can tell you about actual water availability, and they can give you information about permits, too.
  • Some of my ideas about what to pack.
